Tempe Union High School District

Excellence in Teaching and Learning

Welcome Students and Parents!

The Indian Education Program of Tempe Union High School District (TUHSD) would like to invite you to become a part our program. Indian Education is prepared to provide you with academic support and services during the duration of your education journey within TUHSD.

For your information, the Indian Education Program is for all American Indian students with or without a census number. We provide academic support services which include: free tutoring (most campuses), information for transition to Higher Education, most *academic course fees are paid, and an end of year Student Recognition Program to name a few. In addition, Indian Education is excited to be able to provide you with a program specialist helping to assist you with achieving your academic goals.

To begin receiving services, we ask that you to fill out the following forms in order to receive Title VI or Johnson- O’Malley services. TUHSD is not unified with the Elementary school districts so it is necessary that you take a moment to register for these programs and return the registration form before the start of the school year.

The Indian Education Staff (IES) wishes you a successful academic year and would like to assure you that IES is here to assist you in making high school a rewarding experience. If you have any questions, please contact us at (480) 838-3200 ext.40068.

Book Distribution Information:

  • The application window for the Native American Science and Engineering Program (NASEP) is now officially OPEN. Please see attached document and the NASEP application website for details about the application process and the program. In brief, the basic program description and eligibility requirements are as follows:

    NASEP Program Description:
NASEP is a year-long program designed to provide Native American high school students with a vision of a career in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field; connects students with academic professionals and industry representatives from STEM related interests; and catalyze the student's motivation to complete chemistry, physics, and pre-calculus before graduating high school.  Through one-on-one college preparation coaching with university affiliates, building a computer from its essential components, interactive workshops, and family events, students learn how to effectively prepare for the college admissions process, receive important information about academic success, and are exposed to different STEM career paths.

The summer experience will take place June 11-17 this year. The application priority deadline is MARCH 17, 2017. Please have all completed documents sent to the below email address by this date.

Eligibility: This is open to current high school sophomores and juniors (or rising juniors and seniors for the 2017-2018 academic year) and enrolled members of a federally recognized tribe.
