Degrees and Certifications:
Welcome to Academic Services, the office of the Assistant Principal of Academics
We focus on all “things” academic. The links on the left side of this page offer helpful information related to academic achievement, registration and scheduling, dual enrollment, graduation, and other important topics. We encourage you take a look!
In support of Mountain Pointe’s vision of Purpose, Pride and Performance, we adhere to the principles of Rigor, Relevance and Relationships.
At Mountain Pointe, and in the Tempe Union High School District, we continually examine our curriculum, take the pulse of student progress through the use of formative assessments, and strive to collaborate with one another to improve instruction to meet the differentiated needs of our students. Through this process, we hold our students to high standards with the goal of improving student achievement. Building solid relationships with our students and fostering positive relationships between our students is important as we integrate each and every student who comes to Mountain Pointe into the Pride family.
Students can experience Rigor by taking one of 55 honors courses, including 15 AP courses. Credit is given in 44 Dual Enrollment courses so students can earn college credit while still in high school. To succeed in an area of study, research tells us that course material must have Relevance to students. In support of this, we are taking an “academy” approach to some of our areas of study. In the 2011-12 school year, the Business, Family and Culinary Academy will begin. Next, in 2012-13, our Arts Academy, which brings our visual arts, performing arts and Dance program together, will be fully implemented. Currently in the works is a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Academy as well as a Health Sciences Academy.
In support of student achievement, we have expanded our Student Success Tutoring Program by bringing back Academic Lab. The purpose of Academic Lab is to provide students opportunities for academic assistance within the school day. Twice a week for a 40 minute period, all staff will focus their efforts and attention in support of student achievement.
Building Relationships with our students is a priority. Through programs like our annual Freshmen Boot Camp and Women Mentors Day, we hope to provide opportunities for our students to get to know one another and teachers, and meet members from the local community with whom they can connect.
At Mountain Pointe, we work hard and take great pride in our efforts to support our students. I hope you take a moment to access the links on this page.
