Think before you post: Student produces social media awareness video
Social media is a great tool to exchange information, enhance communication, share ideas and experiences and engage with others. But a person’s reputation and even future can be damaged when social media is used in a negative or inappropriate way.
Tempe Union High School District encourages students and staff to think before they post on social media and as part of efforts to raise awareness, the District plans to share a new student-produced video with all students and staff at the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year.
As her final project before she graduated from McClintock High School, Savannah Reitzel produced a video highlighting some of the consequences students may face if they use social media in a negative way. The project was part of the mentorship program at Peggy Payne Academy, Tempe Union’s gifted program, which is located on McClintock's campus.
Savannah worked under the direction of her mentor Mr. Warren Cole, a business teacher at McClintock and multi-media specialist for the District’s community relations department, and the department’s executive director, Jill Hanks.
The video’s message is simple. When it comes to posting on social media, “Be safe, be smart, be kind.”

Savannah was recognized for her efforts by Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Baca and the Governing Board at the July 20, 2016 meeting.
