As of May 20, 2020, there has been an update to the Tempe Union High School District policy on medication (JLCD-R) that will affect you beginning with the 2020/21 school year.

All medication - whether over-the-counter or prescription - must now be accompanied by an order (Medication Administration Consent Form) signed by an appropriately licensed health care provider stating the name of the medicine, the dosage, and the time it is to be given. Medication must have the consent form on file to be administered. 

Any medication that needs to be administered during the school day will still need to be provided to the health office in its original container, and all medication will be kept in a locked cabinet by the school nurse. Written permission from the custodial parent/guardian allowing the medication to be taken will also continue to be kept on file.

The school nurse will not administer medication during the first and last period EXCEPT in specific cases prearranged with the parent or guardian.

We appreciate your adherence to this updated policy, as it provides additional measures to keep our students safe. If you have additional questions, feel free to reach out to the school nurse.

As of January 1, 2010, the TUHSD's Health Offices will no longer be providing “stock” acetaminophen (Tylenol) or Ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin). Parents must provide the Health Office all such over-the-counter medications for their students' use. Except in specific cases, the school nurse will NOT distribute medications during the first and last periods.

ALL TUHSD CAMPUSES ARE DRUG-FREE. FOR THE SAFETY AND HEALTH OF ALL OUR STUDENTS. ALL MEDICATIONS, INCLUDING TYLENOL AND ADVIL, MUST BE KEPT IN THE SCHOOL NURSE’S OFFICE.

STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CARRY MEDICATIONS WITH THEM TO SCHOOL.

MEDICATION REMINDERS

Per district policy, students are NOT permitted to carry OTC or prescription medication during the school day, with the exception of the three emergency medications listed below.

Please return any of the above forms to the Health Office when complete.

If your student can take required medications at home, please have them do so. When absolutely necessary to take medication during the school day, the parent MUST bring the prescribed/desired medication to the nurse in its original, sealed container, and complete a medication administration form signed by both the health care provider and parent. Students may NOT carry the medication to the nurse. This applies to over-the-counter medication as well as prescription medication.

All medications need to be picked up at the end of the school year or they will be discarded.

Immunizations

If you receive a letter in the mail regarding immunizations, PLEASE take the time to read it and follow through with whatever is needed. State law mandates what immunizations are required for a student to attend school. Every student MUST be current!
