Instrumental Music Strand/Pathway

  • Instrumental Music

    The purpose of the Instrumental Music strand is to develop the student’s fundamental performance skills, understanding of music theory, awareness of music history and culture, and standard methods and practices of instrumental music making in order to foster a lifelong interest in the art of music. Students will be offered a diversity of opportunities to rehearse and perform in large ensembles, chamber ensembles, and as soloists so that they may grow as performers and as evaluative artistic decision makers.

    Wind Emphasis

    This course of study is designed for the woodwind and brass instrumentalist who seeks to pursue collegiate study and/or a career in the wind band and related fields. Emphasis is placed on individual and ensemble achievement at the highest level in order to prepare students for a future in performance and pedagogy.

      • Symphonic Band (FA771) or Wind Ensemble (FA772)
    • Sophomore
      • Wind Ensemble (FA772) or Honors Music Exploration & Performance (FA731)
    • Junior
      • Wind Ensemble (FA772) or Honors Music Exploration & Performance (FA731)
    • Senior
      • Wind Ensemble (FA772) or Honors Music Exploration & Performance (FA731)
      • AP Music Theory (FA84) or any other Fine Arts elective
    *Additional requirements to earn AVPA Diploma:
    • Participate in Marching Band for four years (9th-12th)
    • Solo concert performance (11th or 12th)
    • Conducting project (11th or 12th)

    Percussion Emphasis

    This course of study is designed for the percussion instrumentalist who seeks to pursue collegiate study and/or a career in percussion-related fields. Emphasis is placed on individual and ensemble achievement at the highest level in order to prepare students for a future in performance and pedagogy.

Emphasis is placed on individual and ensemble achievement at the highest level in order to prepare students for a future in performance and pedagogy.
