Sports Medicine at Mountain Pointe

  • Sports Medicine is a CTE course for students who are interested in learning about sports medicine and the Athletic Training profession. This course will provide material focused on important concepts and methods used in sports medicine and Athletic Training. Topics include the roles of various sports medicine personnel, basic Anatomy & Physiology and medical terminology. As well as recognition and clinical diagnosis of athletic injury, prevention of athletic injury, rehabilitation of athletic injury and emergency care.

Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation (2-year commitment)

  •  Year 1:

    • PED300  Sports Medicine 1-2
    • Topics covered include; administration and professional development in the field of athletic training, basic anatomy and physiology, injuries to the lower extremity, injuries to the upper extremity, National Athletic Training month project, and injuries to the head and face.
    • Offered for dual enrollment credit: Course code HES 271 

    Year 2:

    • PED310  Sports Medicine 3-4
    • Topics covered include; insurance and patient's rights, injuries to the spine, cardiopulmonary and thorax/abdomen injuries, environmental conditions, emergency assessment and procedures (CPR/first-aid certification), therapeutic and psychological intervention, strength and conditioning, and nutrition.
