•   Substitute Services in TUHSD

    Our substitute teachers and nurses play an important role in the educational process for the students on our campuses. If you would like the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students, we invite you to consider providing substitute services at Tempe Union High School District through Educational Services, Inc. (ESI).

    To apply for placement at TUHSD through ESI

    If you are interested in substituting for TUHSD you will need to apply with ESI, the company employing all of our substitutes.
    1. When you apply with ESI, the first step in the process is to complete their employment application found at this link: https://educationalservicesinc.applytojob.com/apply/w5FB7Aft5Q/SubSource-Substitute-Position
    2. The second step is an onboarding process that you must complete before you can begin to substitute. ESI will contact you with instructions for the completion of onboarding.
    3. The third step will be ESI alerting us to your interest in employment with ESI and placement at TUHSD.

    Compensation recommendations for Substitute Teachers are based on the Supplementary Pay Schedule:

    Length of Regular Assignment

    Rate of Pay - Valid Teachers Certificate

    Half Day

    1 – 3.59 hours 

    $87.50

    Full Day

    4 – 8 hours

    $175
    ($25 added if subbed 6 periods for the day)

     

    Length of Long-Term Assignment

    * In special circumstances, the long-term substitute rate may be paid prior to the 21st day of service in the same teaching assignment. 

    Substitute Nurse Rates of Pay:

    To expedite processing, be sure to attach copies of the following to your application with ESI:
    • Copy of Official Transcripts
    • Copy of your valid Arizona Substitute Teaching Certificate (or nursing license)
    • Copy of your valid Arizona DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card
    To avoid delays, please ensure that the reference contact information for your former employment supervisors is complete and accurate in your ESI application. We cannot accept personal references.

    Substitute Certification:

    If you do not have a substitute teaching certificate you must obtain one before you can begin substitute teaching. Please follow this easy checklist:
     
    √  Obtain an Arizona DPS fingerprint clearance card. The cost is $67 and the card is good for six years. More information is found at this link: http://www.azed.gov/educator-certification/files/2011/09/fingerprint-card-information.pdf?20150302
    √  Obtain your official college transcripts showing a bachelor’s degree or higher degree. Original transcripts are required by the Arizona Department of Education.

    √  Once you have obtained the DPS fingerprint clearance card and your official transcripts, download and complete the application for Substitute Certification from the ADE website: http://www.azed.gov/educator-certification/files/2013/11/application-for-certification-checklist-11-18-2013.pdf?20150701

    √  To obtain your substitute certificate: Submit the completed application for certification, the transcripts, a copy of the DPS fingerprint clearance card, and the correct fees by money order, cashier’s check or personal check made payable to the Arizona Department of Education.

    √  When you have received your substitute certificate, please attach a copy of it to your online applications for ESI and TUHSD.
