Desert Vista Teacher Wins Wishes for Teachers Grant

Congratulations are in order for Desert Vista Science Teacher Stacey Forget! Forget has been awarded the Wishes for Teachers grant, created by Fiesta Bowl Charities to better the learning Stacey Forget environment for students and teachers inside the classroom!

Created in 2016, the Fiesta Bowl Charities Wishes for Teachers program grants classroom wishes to teachers across the state of Arizona. The Fiesta Bowl organization saw that many teachers spent their own money to enhance their classroom experience and developed a program to aid teachers in that effort. As a way to support, celebrate and honor Arizona educators, teachers are invited to fill out an online application detailing their school and classroom wish. Wishes are selected by a random drawing to receive a grant. All wish recipients become part of the Fiesta Bowl family and can participate in community events throughout the year. In its four years, Wishes for Teachers granted over $3.2 million to Arizona teachers, impacting hundreds of thousands of children

As a former Thunder student herself and now a teacher for the same community, Forget is excited about the implications of this grant not only  for her field but for the progression of her students’ futures and careers; “I've been teaching at DV for 3 years now. I have taught 11 years in total both in CTE (Biotech - DV, Sports Medicine - previous school) and Science (Biology, Earth Science - both at DV). I am a DV grad myself and grew up in the area so it is fun to be able to give back a little to the school that helped get me on this path I'm on now.”

Forget also shared about what she plans to do with the money awarded to her and her wish for the Desert Vista student body and their education; “I submitted the grant proposal to them for a 3D printer for our biotech program for building models and hopefully moving towards more projects on 3D bioprinting and designing new innovations within our advanced studies course. As we've all seen over the last 9 months, the biotechnology field is exploding and we try to give our students at DV as many opportunities as possible to experience different avenues they could study or work in the Biotech field. This grant through Fiesta Bowl Wishes for Teachers gave us the opportunity to expand our program topics and we hope to build on it even more in the future to keep up with the always changing biotechnology field.”

Congratulations again to Stacey Forget and her vision for the Thunder student body, which has named her one of the winners of the Wishes for Teachers grant!
