Many studies show that about 20 percent of Americans have mental health problems. That’s one out of every five people — so it’s likely we all know someone who’s affected.

One common mental health problem is depression. As you’ll learn from this first-hand video or transcript, depression is more than sadness. It’s a feeling of hopelessness and helplessness. And yet people can and do recover.
