Hybrid/ Synchronous online courses combine elements of both on-camera synchronous learning and asynchronous learning, offering a mix of flexibility and real-time interaction.
Here's what it means:
- Blended learning: The course includes a mix of synchronous (real-time) sessions and asynchronous (on-your-own-time) activities.
Students will engage in real-time discussions and lessons via Google Meet, and complete independent work through our online platform, Edmentum. - Real-time interaction: Students and instructors meet at set times, virtually, for live lessons.
- Everyone must be present at the same time, though they are not necessarily in the same physical location.
This approach offers the benefits of both formats: the real-time interaction of synchronous learning and the flexibility of asynchronous elements, allowing for deeper engagement and accommodating diverse learning preferences.
2.) Credit Advancement: Asynchronous online course
- Online curriculum with a certified TUHSD instructor for intervention and support
- Access to courses 24/ 7 during SEA
- Active learning time is expected to be 4–6 hours per day to be able to finish each course
- In-person final exam at the end of each session required to earn credit in the course- @ Marcos de Niza
Asynchronous online course is a type of course where students and instructors do not need to be online at the same time. Instead, students can access course materials, complete assignments, and participate in discussions at their own pace within a given timeframe. Key features of asynchronous online courses include:
- Flexibility: Students can engage with the course at times that work best for them, which is especially beneficial for those with varying schedules or time zones.
- Self-paced learning: While there are often deadlines for assignments or discussions, students can decide when to study and complete tasks.
- Pre-recorded content: Lessons, lectures, and instructions are delivered through videos, documents, and slide deck tutorials that students can revisit as needed.
- Discussion boards and forums: Students can communicate with instructors by posting and responding to messages and/or email communication, allowing for interaction over time rather than in real-time.
- No live meetings: There are typically no live lectures or real-time interactions, except for the in-person final exam, though instructors may offer optional live sessions or office hours for additional support.
This format works well for independent learners who can manage their time effectively and are comfortable learning through digital resources.

Attendance Policy
Summer school is a voluntary program. Daily attendance is critical to a student’s ability to be successful.
Credit Recovery: Since Summer School hours are limited, daily attendance is extremely important. A minimum of ten (10) days per session is required to earn credit. Tardiness or early departures in excess of 15 minutes will constitute one (1) absence. Students will be dropped after the second (2) absence (there are no refunds after May 23, 2025), due to the compacted time and necessary instructional hours. Please plan all activities accordingly.
Online Credit Advancement:
- Online students must start their course within the first two (2) days of the session or they will be dropped from the course (there are no refunds after May 23, 2025). If a student starts a course, but does not complete it by the end of the session a grade of “F” will be assigned for the course on the student transcript. Students wishing to withdraw from an online course because they will not complete the course must have a parent or guardian withdraw them from the course by June 10, 2025 for session 1, or June 24, 2025 for session 2.
