About Tempe High School

  • As a “Family of Learners” at Tempe High, we value the diverse backgrounds and experiences our students bring to our school. As the city’s first public high school, Tempe Buffaloes have earned numerous academic, artistic, and athletic awards, since being established in 1908.

Through educationally rich opportunities, our students become life-long learners. Respect, integrity, and perseverance are characteristics we celebrate in the classroom, on the field and when we perform.  Global awareness, environmental consciousness, civic duty and responsibility are values we embrace and we strive to produce graduates who see beyond the needs of themselves and have a desire to serve in their communities.

On the campus of Tempe High, we offer a variety of academic options for all ability levels.

We are home to the Tempe Union High School District’s International Baccalaureate Program, a rigorous college-prep program designed for highly motivated students interested in a challenging educational experience. Tempe High is also proud to offer the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program. AVID is a college-prep curricular program for students in the academic middle.

Our Health Occupation Preparatory Education (HOPE) Academy is a partnership between Tempe High, Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital. The H.O.P.E. Academy presents core courses (Math, Science, Social Studies, and English) with a medical focus.

We also believe that the arts are an important part of every student’s education and provides tools for creating, communicating, understanding others’ ideas, and making critical choices. Our career and technical education opportunities ensure students are ready for success, regardless of their path after graduation.

At Tempe High we pride ourselves in our athletic teams and outstanding extracurricular activities. We strongly believe in educating and developing the whole person through various learning opportunities and experiences.
