Important Leadership Announcement

Thunder Families & Students,

As you are aware, earlier this month, we announced that Principal Mike Deignan would be leaving Desert Vista after the conclusion of this school year in order to pursue other career opportunities. We have undergone our typical comprehensive process of posting the open Principal position and recruiting and reviewing qualified applicants. Unfortunately, the current candidate pool for principals is extremely limited. We felt strongly that there were not applicants that were appropriately qualified to be interviewed and ultimately lead Desert Vista.

We understand that it is important to find a dedicated, qualified leader for Desert Vista who understands your campus and can lead you to continued excellence. As a result, I am pleased to announce that I will be appointing Ms. Stacy White as your Interim Principal for next year.

Next school year will be Ms. White’s twenty-fifth year with Tempe Union. She moved to Arizona from Nebraska where she earned her bachelor's degree in Special Education and Physical Education and her master’s degree in Curriculum and Instructional with an emphasis in ESL from University of Nebraska. Prior to joining Tempe Union High School District as a DV teacher in August 1998, she taught Special Education at Lincoln Public Schools and coached both volleyball and basketball.

Ms. White has served in a variety of leadership positions during her time with the District, including six years at Desert Vista as the Assistant Principal for Academics. She also earned a second master's degree, in Educational Administration and Supervision, from Arizona State University.

In 2020, she joined the Teaching & Learning department at the District Office to become the Director of Instructional Services. In this position, she was responsible for the oversight of Assistant Principals for Academics in the areas of registration, master schedule creation and training, responsibilities for the Curriculum Committee and new course proposals processes, and online enrollment and verification process. She also worked collaboratively with feeder districts to facilitate a smooth transition to high school and shared District oversight of school counselors, and our multi-tiered systems of support personnel. Ms. White has truly dedicated her career with TUHSD to students, parents, community and staff.

Ms. White is well-respected as an educational leader and well-known for her attention to detail and emphasis on both process and student achievement. She is considered a leader among her peers and has been tapped on the shoulder many times over her career with TUHSD to step into roles for improving procedure and process to benefit student learning. We are fortunate to have someone of Ms. White’s caliber who lives in the Ahwatukee community and is able to step into the important role of leading Desert Vista. I know you will welcome her back to DV with enthusiasm.

I know the pandemic has brought challenges to our school communities, but I think everyone can look forward to the promise of a fresh start in the new school year. I am confident that Ms. White will lead our Thunder community with both energy and integrity.

Familias y estudiantes de Thunder,

Como saben, a principios de este mes, anunciamos que el director Mike Deignan dejaría Desert Vista después de la conclusión de este año escolar para buscar otras oportunidades profesionales. Nos hemos sometido a nuestro típico proceso integral de publicar el puesto vacante de Director y reclutar y evaluar a los solicitantes calificados. Desafortunadamente, el grupo actual de candidatos para directores es extremadamente limitado. Sentimos firmemente que no había solicitantes que estuvieran debidamente calificados para ser entrevistados y, en última instancia, liderar Desert Vista.

Entendemos que es importante encontrar un líder dedicado y calificado para Desert Vista que comprenda su campus y pueda guiarlo hacia la excelencia continua. Como resultado, me complace anunciar que nombraré a la Sra. Stacy White como su directora interina para el próximo año.

El próximo año escolar será el vigésimo quinto año de la Sra. White con Tempe Union. Se mudó a Arizona desde Nebraska, donde obtuvo su licenciatura en Educación Especial y Educación Física y su maestría en Currículo e Instrucción con énfasis en ESL de la Universidad de Nebraska. Antes de unirse al Distrito de Escuelas Secundarias de Tempe Union como maestra de DV en agosto de 1998, enseñó Educación Especial en las Escuelas Públicas de Lincoln y fue entrenadora de voleibol y baloncesto.

La Sra. White ha servido en una variedad de posiciones de liderazgo durante su tiempo con el Distrito, incluyendo seis años en Desert Vista como Subdirectora de Asuntos Académicos. También obtuvo una segunda maestría en Administración y Supervisión Educativa de la Universidad Estatal de Arizona.

En 2020, se unió al departamento de Enseñanza y Aprendizaje en la Oficina del Distrito para convertirse en Directora de Servicios de Instrucción. En este puesto, fue responsable de la supervisión de los Subdirectores Académicos en las áreas de registro, creación y capacitación del horario maestro, responsabilidades del Comité de Currículo y procesos de propuestas de nuevos cursos, y proceso de verificación y registro en línea. También trabajó en colaboración con los distritos de origen para facilitar una transición sin problemas a la escuela secundaria y compartió la supervisión del distrito de los consejeros escolares y nuestros sistemas de personal de apoyo de varios niveles. La Sra. White verdaderamente ha dedicado su carrera en TUHSD a los estudiantes, padres, comunidad y personal.

La Sra. White es muy respetada como líder educativa y conocida por su atención a los detalles y su énfasis en el proceso y el rendimiento de los estudiantes. Ella es considerada una líder entre sus compañeros y ha sido tocada en el hombro muchas veces durante su carrera con TUHSD para asumir roles para mejorar el procedimiento y el proceso para beneficiar el aprendizaje de los estudiantes.
