Marcos de Niza Recommends Candidate for Head Coaching Position
Marcos de Niza High School is recommending that Eric Lauer be approved by the Tempe Union High School District Governing Board as the school’s next Head Football Coach.
Couch Lauer has served as an Assistant Coach for Mountain Pointe High School for the past 12 years. He began his involvement with the team under Coach Karl Kiefer and was made Assistant Head Coach by Coach Norris Vaughan. Over the years, Lauer has worked with more than forty student athletes who have gone on to play in Division I schools.
In his full time position with the district, Lauer serves as one of three High School Health and Wellness Coaches for TUHSD. The position is tasked with developing programming that focuses on the prevention of underage drinking, marijuana use, and prescription drug misuse and abuse. The health and wellness coaches work with students, staff and parents to create and execute awareness campaigns and special events that will help students make healthy choices when it comes to drugs and alcohol.
“Eric Lauer is the total package. His ability to connect with our students and his knowledge of the game makes him the ideal person for this role,” stated Marcos de Niza Principal Sean McDonald. “He has demonstrated this during his time on the sidelines at Mountain Pointe and I have witnessed it firsthand in his role as a Health and Wellness Coach at Marcos. He is not only going to help our student athletes succeed on the field, he is going to help them succeed in life.”
