TUHSD students bring cheer during Smiles of Christmas
Over 200 Tempe Union High School District students gave the gift of friendship to elementary school students in a ongoing tradition known as Smiles of Christmas.
Marcos de Niza hosted 250 pairs of high school and elementary buddies from Frank Elementary School, located in Tempe. The pairs spent the morning making crafts, decorating cookies, playing carnival games, taking photos with Santa, listening to mariachis and carolers and eating lunch together.
Smiles of Christmas, now in its 16th year, is one of the largest student-led mentor charity event in the Southwest.
This year, TUHSD's event also fell on Giving Tuesday, the international kick-off of a charitable season of giving back throughout the winter holidays.
