Corona del Sol recommends new head wrestling coach
Corona del Sol is recommending that Jesse Whitson be approved by the Tempe Union High School District Governing Board as the school’s next head wrestling coach.
Coach Whitson graduated from Deer Valley High School in 2005 and went on to wrestle for the University of Central Missouri, where he graduated in 2009 with a degree in social studies education. The following year he received his Master’s Degree in Sports Business Administration.
After college, Whitson remained in Missouri to teach and coach at Grain Valley High School. Under his leadership, the team finished in the top ten four times. He coached 24 state placers, ten state finalists and one state champ, including an All-American.
“Coach Whitson will be a wonderful asset to our community, to Corona students, and to the Aztec wrestling program,” said Cory Nenaber, Assistant Principal of Athletics. “His dedication to students, combined with his love of the sport, perfectly complements Corona’s commitment to excellence in the classroom and in the field of competition.”
Upon approval of the Governing Board, Whitson will also teach social studies full-time at Corona beginning in the 2019-2020 school year.
