Mountain Pointe students throw clay for worthy cause

Mountain Pointe Clay Club hosted some special guests for a quick lesson on throwing clay on the wheel. Residents from a local senior living facility joined a handful of advanced ceramics students after school to create bowls for the Tempe Empty Bowls project - a fundraiser that gives back to the Tempe community.

Under the direction of their ceramics teacher, Teresa Gilchrist, the students taught residents of Mountain Park Senior Community how to "throw clay", a term used in making ceramic bowls. The students helped the residents shape, mold and design their bowls.

The bowls will be for sale at the Tempe Public Library on February 28 & 29, 2020. Bowls are $10 each. All proceeds will benefit combatting hunger in Tempe.
