TUHSD Governing Board votes to remain virtual for first quarter of school year

The Tempe Union High School District Governing Board voted 5-0 at their August 5 meeting to keep students in virtual mode for the duration of the first quarter, or until the metrics for reopening provided by the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) can be met.

Metrics are scheduled to be released by ADHS on Friday, August 7. Once released, they are expected to provide additional guidance on the safe reopening of schools.

Currently, TUHSD’s first quarter is scheduled through Friday, October 2. Fall break is slated for the following week, with students and teachers beginning the second quarter of instruction on Tuesday, October 13. The full student calendar for the 2020-2021 school year is available here.

The full resolution passed by the Governing Board is available to view here. The resolution stems from the Governor’s most recent executive order regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and the safe reopening of schools.
