Tempe High School will dedicate their new stadium field on Friday, November 6, 2020 during halftime of their football game against visiting Arcadia High School. Game kick-off will be at 7 PM. Brief remarks and a ceremonial ribbon cutting will take place at halftime to dedicate the new field.
Construction of the field began in May 2020, after the TUHSD Governing Board unanimously approved new stadium fields for both Tempe High and sister school Desert Vista. Both projects involved the complete removal of natural grass field and installation of a synthetic turf system. The Tempe High project was funded in part by generous support from the Arizona Cardinals, via the NFL Foundation, and LISC Phoenix.
“Tempe High is the flagship school of our district,” said Kevin Mendivil, Superintendent for TUHSD. “This new field is vital for both our Buffalo community and the surrounding area. For a school with 112 years of history and a deep base of support in the area, this kind of project is an absolute game-changer."
Sun Valley Builders, Inc. was the construction company for the project, and Shaw Sports Turf installed the new turf system. Both companies worked with Lloyd Consulting Group, the principal engineers on the project. The new field will offer a higher safety rating for students and community members who utilize it, and save nearly 2.8M gallons of water annually.
“We are so pleased to dedicate our new field this week,” said Brian Guliford, Principal of Tempe High. “We recognize and appreciate the deep level of support in our community for this project, as well as the generous support from the Cardinals, LISC, and the NFL Foundation.”
