Tempe High School Selects Todd Hanley as Next Head Football Coach
Tempe High School has selected Todd Hanley as their next Head Football coach. The recommendation of Hanley for the open position is pending approval by the Tempe Union High School District Governing Board. The next scheduled meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2021.
Coach Hanley most recently served as head coach for Flagstaff High School. He joins the Buffalos with years of experience coaching at Valley-area schools, including stints at Florence High School and Seton Catholic High School.
“We are so excited to have Coach Hanley join our Buffalo Family,” said Tempe High Principal Brian Guliford. “With the debut of our new turf field this past season, and a young team that is hungry to learn, adding Coach Hanley to the mix is a really dynamite proposition.”
Hanley played football at Northern Arizona University and graduated with a degree in Career and Technical Education. A coach since 1998, Hanley began teaching in 2017 after a distinguished 21-year career in law enforcement, where he worked for both the City of Casa Grande and the City of Phoenix. He is the recipient of the Distinguished Service Medal, the Medal of Valor, and the Medal of Lifesaving.
Tempe High’s Assistant Principal of Athletics, Shelly Arredondo, was equally enthusiastic about Hanley’s hire. “This is such a positive move for Tempe High,” Arredondo said. “We have a tight-knit group of players who are young and ready to go. Coach Hanley is going to be a great fit for the Buffalo Family and we’re excited to get him on board.”
