Jessica Millanes Shearer - Cross Country Program Head CoachOctober 14, 2022 – Desert Vista High School has brought on Jessica Millanes Shearer as Head Coach for their Girls’ Cross Country program. The hire was formally approved by the Tempe Union High School District Governing Board last month.

Shearer will be returning to Desert Vista, where she ran Cross Country and Track as a high school student, and graduated in 2000. During her high school career, she served as captain of the Cross Country team for all four years, and won state championships in both Cross Country and Track.

“It’s always exciting to welcome a new coach to our campus, but bringing back a Thunder alumna to lead one of our top athletic programs is very special,” said Desert Vista Principal Stacy White.

Shearer attended Saint Mary’s College (IN) where she competed in Cross Country as well as coaching at a local high school. She went on to serve as an officer in the Marine Corps and served two tours in Iraq.

"I am so excited to give back to a program that has given me so much,” said Shearer. "Desert Vista is a special place. To be back here and coaching is a humbling experience that has been a challenge as well as a privilege that I don't take for granted.”
