DESERT VISTA SELECTS ANDREW “SCOOTER” MOLANDER AS NEXT HEAD FOOTBALL COACH

March 8, 2023 – Desert Vista High School has formally recommended Andrew “Scooter” Molander as their next head Football coach. The recommendation is pending approval by the Tempe Union High School District Governing Board at their March 29, 2023 meeting.

Molander joins Desert Vista from Eastmark High School, where he served as the school’s first head football coach when they opened their doors to students in 2019. Last season, his Eastmark team won the 3A state championship.

Prior to his time at Eastmark, Molander served as head coach at Brophy College Prep for thirteen years, guiding the Bronco program to the playoffs twelve out of thirteen years and winning two State Championship titles. Molander is the winningest Head Coach in Brophy’s history.

“Coach Molander is the perfect fit for Desert Vista,” said Principal Stacy White. “We have a long legacy of excellence but also a program that is looking to build a new reputation for themselves. I am confident that Coach Molander will bring his own history of excellence to help our team move forward successfully and navigate those waters.”

Molander grew up in the Valley and played football at Corona del Sol High School, a sister school to Desert Vista. He played football for Phoenix College and then transferred to Colorado State University to continue playing. He graduated from CSU in 1990 with a degree in Social Sciences, and went on to play in both the NFL and Arena Football Leagues before beginning his coaching career. In 2021, Molander was inducted into the Tempe All-City Hall of Fame.

“It is an honor to join Desert Vista High School,” said Molander. “The academic and athletic excellence the school has produced on a consistent basis is remarkable. I look forward to serving and working hard to play my role in rebuilding a historically fantastic football program of which Coach Rattay started and Dan Hinds led successfully for so many years.”
