TUHSD | Governing Board Names Next Superintendent
November 29, 2023 – Tempe Union High School District’s Governing Board voted 5-0 during a special meeting tonight to enter into contract negotiations with Dr. Stacia Wilson as the next Superintendent. Appointing a superintendent is one of the primary jobs of a Governing Board, and board members carefully considered feedback from employees, families, students, and community partners during the hiring process.
“Dr. Wilson stepped into the role of Acting Superintendent in August and has been an exemplary leader,” said Governing Board President Armando Montero. “The Governing Board has full confidence in Dr. Wilson and we believe that her leadership style and skill set are the best fit for the District, our students and families, and the community.”
Dr. Wilson has served the Tempe community as an educator for over twenty-five years. She has spent her entire career within Tempe Union, beginning her high school teaching career at Desert Vista High School as an English teacher. She went on to serve in various administrator roles throughout the District, including Principal of Tempe High. During her time at Tempe High, the school received an ‘A’ rating by the Arizona Department of Education and was a recipient of Arizona Education Foundation’s A+ School of Excellence Award.
Dr. Wilson moved to the District Office in 2018 to serve as Associate Superintendent, which was the role she held prior to being appointed Acting Superintendent on August 9 of this year. She attended Tempe-area schools from K-12, graduating from McClintock High School. Wilson holds a Bachelor’s degree from Hampton University, and Master’s and Doctorate degrees from Northern Arizona University.
“I am truly humbled by this,” said Dr. Wilson. “This District is my home, and has given me so much, both as a student and as an educator. I am honored that the Governing Board has entrusted me with this role and I look forward to continuing to positively impact our students, their families, and the TUHSD community.”
Pending contract negotiations, Dr. Wilson will assume her duties as Superintendent beginning July 1, 2024. She will remain as Acting Superintendent for the duration of the 23/24 school year.
