Trip Reduction Program
At Tempe Union High School District, we are aware of the traffic congestion and air pollution problems facing Valley residents. TUHSD supports efforts to reduce air pollution and improve the quality of life. We encourage students and staff, whenever possible, to consider alternative ways to get to school - by carpooling, using public transportation, riding a bicycle, driving an alternative fuel vehicle or walking.
Tempe Union High School District participates in the mandatory Maricopa County Trip Reduction Program. The program's goal is to reduce emissions by lowering the number of single-occupancy vehicles on Valley streets. To comply with the program and to make commuting less stressful and more convenient for students, we offer bike racks on campus and month prize drawings for alternative mode users.
What does it mean to be an Alternative Mode User?
All that is needed from participants is to carpool, ride a bicycle, bus or walk one day out of five.
